Hello my historical society friends,
Hope you have all noticed the new roof on the depot. Thanks to the Village of Blissfield and Tony Freer and crew we have a beautiful new cedar shake roof, new sheathing with mesh underneath and no leaks! Thank you all! If you see anyone from the Village or Tony's crew, be sure and thank them!
We decided as a group to not have work bees during the month of August. We had one last week 9-7-26 and will be having them every Tuesday from 1:30-4:00. Losing our great friend Gary Holmes has knocked our socks off! (To put it lightly) It just feels WRONG. We should have videotaped him everytime he talked, he was such a font of information, what a memory! More than anything, he was our friend. There is a big hole in our group now.
Things we are working on,
*Skeleton ideas
*Brass plaque for Gary at the museum
*Finishing the form for the first POW Historic Marker (due by 11-15-27, we missed the first deadline of 4-15-26). The sign will be placed at Silberhorn at the accident site location. This was really important to Gary and we will see it through for sure. We have the verbiage done, but have to have official references for all information on the sign.
*Ideas for programs at the Museum
*Jackie Bates is giving a tour of the museum today to a group of Homeschooled kids through the Library.
*We are open every Saturday 11-3 and happy to be open for any special groups or occasions on other days.
* Dues letters will be going out soon, we appreciate you sending them back in or dropping them off. Even if you are not able to attend often, we appreciate the donation. We use our dues to pay for the internet at the depot.
Remember, we are saving Blissfield (Riga and Palmyra) histories one piece at a time!
