Places & Spaces: Mapping Science

Places & Spaces: Mapping Science The Places & Spaces: Mapping Science Exhibit is a 10-year/100-map exhibit by the Cyberinfrastructure The exhibit is a 10-year effort.

Places & Spaces: Mapping Science is meant to inspire cross-disciplinary discussion on how to best track and communicate human activity and scientific progress on a global scale. It has two components: the physical part supports the close inspection of high quality reproductions of maps for display at conferences and education centers; the online counterpart provides links to a selected series of m

aps and their makers along with detailed explanations of how these maps work. Each year, 10 new maps are added resulting in 100 maps total in 2014.

Thank You for Hosting the Places & Spaces Exhibit

Dear Team at Indiana University Collections, McCalla,

On behalf of our organization, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Indiana University Collections, McCalla School, for hosting and displaying the Places & Spaces: Mapping Science exhibit from June 5 to November 3, 2024. It has been a true pleasure to witness such a remarkable and thoughtfully curated display, bringing the power of visualizing scientific data to life in such an impactful way.

The interdisciplinary scope and international contributions highlighted in the exhibit—featuring the work of 248 mapmakers from 17 countries—beautifully demonstrate how scientific visualization can transcend cultural and scholarly boundaries to bring forth vital insights into human knowledge. It’s inspiring to see how each selected map, chosen by a distinguished advisory board, draws us deeper into understanding global scientific patterns.

Thank you once again to everyone involved at Indiana University who made this possible. Your efforts in presenting this exhibit to the public have certainly broadened perspectives and created meaningful engagement within the community.
