Can you believe it? Here are three more fantastically talented artists that will be joining us this weekend!
Michael Amis, Bloomington, IL
Michael Amis Studio
“Michael received his diploma in Product Design from Kent Institute of Art and Design and continued on to the University of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK, where he earned a BA with Honors in Glass. He came to the United States to enter Joel Myers’ graduate program at Illinois State University and received an MFA in 1998. After graduation he designed and built a hotshop for Kokomo Opalescent Glass, where he worked as a studio director, designer, and gaffer until he opened his own studio in October 2007. He is currently in Bloomington, IL creating functional designs and mixed-media sculpture.”
Kate Kobak, Champaign, IL
Fabrikate
When I lived in New York I had a home furnishings business and made miles and miles of curtains and pillows, blinds, slipcovers and a crazy bespoke Chihuahua canopy bed and fur coat for one of my favorite, very eccentric clients. After moving to Champaign and having two kids I wanted to begin fabrikate again, but in a more colorful way. I had taught Alexander Technique for years and have always thought we carry way too much in our bags and that extra burden of weight affects our bodies and how we feel. I decided to make bags because I could combine my obsession with funky prints and take into consideration how to organize and carry less stuff more efficiently.
Allie Janae, Champaign, IL
Art by Allie Janae
I started stained glass as part of my high school internship at a local art glass shop in 2017, mostly making pieces for the shop’s gallery.
I ended up really loving working with all the different types and colors of glass.
So after finishing my internship I continued creating and developing my stained glass aesthetic into the colorful, fun style it is today.
