Ongoing preservation and research allow us to better understand and exhibit Jonathan Fisher’s life, but this work wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our supporters. Your contributions make it possible to care for the collection, uncover new insights, and keep Fisher’s legacy alive for generations to come.

The Fisher House orchard isn’t just another restoration success. It’s alive with history.

Rebuilt over the past 10 to 20 years by dedicated volunteers, the orchard still holds one of Jonathan Fisher’s original pear trees, a rare, living link to the past. What makes this orchard stand out is both its age, and its incredible documentation. We know how it was built, when, and where. Now, that history is preserved and shared right here on the property.

Like early pioneers, Fisher planted from seed, then carefully top-grafted valuable varieties onto young trees. That process is still visible today in this 200+ year-old pear tree, recently DNA-tested to uncover its exact variety.

Want to know what we found? Join us for orchard tours this summer and see history still growing!

Step into the past at the Jonathan Fisher House this October and experience a beloved seasonal tradition: cider pressing.

Every October we invite our community to join us on the historic grounds as we bring history to life with demonstrations of traditional apple pressing. It’s a chance to see one another after a successful season, and be together to create something simple and essential—fresh cider— all while enjoying the crisp air and community spirit of the season.

Whether you’re a longtime supporter or visiting for the first time, this is a welcoming way to connect with the story of the Fisher House and the rhythms of rural life that shaped it!

Date & time to be announced soon!

Roughly five years ago, the crew from Preservation Timber Framing () of South Berwick visited the Fisher House as part of a larger structural assessment. They gently pried open walls, floors and ceilings, to record the extent of damage from water intrusion and time. Their findings, which were dramatic, have been invaluable as the Board of Directors of the Jonathan Fisher House prepare necessary work and ensure this unique community resource remains a cultural anchor in our community. Oh and, we open July 8th. See you then 😉.
