The historic 1887 Vera Cruz Bridge located west of St. Rd. 301 over the Wabash River, south of Vera Cruz has been safely lifted and set on large concrete blocks. The move was skillfully done with two large cranes working together to lift and move it to an area just north of the river. The next step is believed to be carefully disassembling and preparing the bridge to be transported to the IDOT facility west of Bluffton on St. Rd 124.

Work has progressed during the month of August on moving the historic 1887 Vera Cruz Bridge located west of St. Rd. 301 over the Wabash River, south of Vera Cruz., IN. It appears that it will be lifted by a crane and placed on a large semi trailer. Plans are to move it to a State Highway Facility for safekeeping until some group or person decides that they would like it. The construction style is a single span (12 panel pin-connected), Double Intersection Pratt (Whipple) Truss. It is considered historic and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places as an example of an iron truss type bridge. It is 150 feet long and has a roadway width of 18 feet.

This was the home of Judge Edwin C. Vaughn who served as mayor of Bluffton, attorney, prosecutor, and later judge (1893-1906) of the 28th Indiana Judicial Circuit. This home is a two story Colonial Revival style design built in 1897. The design is attributed to local architect William H. This was the first home built in Bluffton Villa North in 1891. It is a two story Queen Anne style and was the home of Lent A. Williamson, who was President of Wells County Bank in the late 1800's.
