The Idaho Military Museum will be closed on Friday, May 15th. To honor Idaho's former Governor, Dirk Kempthorne, we will be performing the cannon salute for his funeral.

Former Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his wife, Patricia, and his family.

We honor the life and legacy of Dirk Kempthorne, who served as Mayor of Boise, United States Senator, Governor of Idaho and Secretary of the Interior. His steadfast service to community and country will be remembered with profound gratitude and deep respect.

Please keep in mind that April 5, 2026 is Gold Star Spouses Day. A Day dedicated to those whose spouses gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military or as a result of service-connected injuries or illness.

Earlier this month, Idaho National Guardsmen gathered together to celebrate 135 years of service to our nation and our neighbors.

The Idaho National Guard was established on March 14th, 1891, when the state legislature approved the organization to serve as the state’s militia. Since that time, the Idaho National Guard has served in every major U.S. conflict.

Today, more than 3,000 Soldiers and 1,300 Airmen make up the Idaho National Guard, which includes the Idaho Army National Guard and the Idaho Air National Guard, with a presence in nearly two dozen communities throughout the state.

A couple of months ago, our Vice President, Kent Kiser, curated a display about Parma resident Herschel T. Coffman. If you haven't been by the museum lately, stop in and take a look. The display is in the WWII room and is a must-see.
