Our regular schedule for the 2026 season is now in full swing, with train rides Thursday through Sunday through October 31.

The Fraser Train, our classic excursion, takes you on a one-hour-and-45-minute ride through the Des Moines River Valley, across the 156-foot-tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge, and over the Des Moines River Bridge. This train departs at 1:30 pm on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday—and at 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Looking for a first-class experience? Try one of our Wolf Trains:

The Wolf Lunch Train departs Saturdays at 11:00 am.

The Wolf Dinner Train offers Friday and Saturday evening departures.

The Wolf Picnic Train allows you to pack your own lunch and departs Sundays at 12:30 pm.

Tickets for each of these trains include admission to the 9,000-square-foot James H. Andrew Railroad Museum.

Most Saturdays through October 31, you can also take a ride aboard a 1915 electric trolley or travel the way maintenance crews used to aboard a beautifully restored motorcar.

For tickets or more information, visit bsvrr.com or call 515.432.4249.

Tomorrow is the big day! On Saturday, May 23, the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad officially kicks off its 2026 season. Saturday’s Fraser Trains, with departures at 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm, are diesel-powered excursions taking you on a one-hour-and-45-minute journey through the Des Moines River Valley and across two spectacular bridges, including the 156-foot-tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge. Tomorrow’s Wolf Lunch Train and Wolf Dinner Train are sold out.

On Sunday, we offer two departures. Our popular Wolf Picnic Train departs at 12:30 pm; it allows you to pack a picnic lunch, or grab something to go from your favorite restaurant, and enjoy your meal as you take in the scenery along the route. At 1:30 pm, our Fraser Train takes to the rails.

Classic Coach Class tickets will be available for purchase tomorrow at the ticket window—reservations are strongly recommended for Climate-Controlled Coach, Open-Air Valley View, and Caboose Class tickets.

Purchase your tickets now at bsvrr.com or by calling 515.432.4249 (until 4:00 pm today—phones are not answered on weekends).

Welcome to at the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.

Do you remember the 475? Built in June 1906 at the Baldwin Locomotive Works (Burnham, Williams & Co.), this M-class 4-8-0 began its life serving the Blacksburg, Virginia branch. By the early 1960s, it was sold to the Virginia Scrap Iron and Metal Co. It passed through the hands of a few collectors, and even spent time under the care of the Pella Historical Society while being stored in Union, Illinois.

After being purchased by C. Rosenberg and others, 475 was donated to the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad in 1985. It arrived in Boone in 1986 to be preserved on display.

Eventually, the Strasburg Railroad purchased the 475 in the 1990s, where it was returned to the rails in full operating service in Pennsylvania.
