How to turn a classic fun activity into NGSS-worthy learning: challenge students to design a way to safely transport supplies to people in hard-to-reach areas.

They still have fun stomping and launching their test rockets, but they are also thinking about payloads, stability, materials, and collecting data that will help them make decisions about how to improve.

Kids are so awesome.

Take a look at the picture a 5th-grade teacher sent us after his class completed the YES unit, *Engineering Plastic Filters.* One of his students posted this flyer around school after learning about pollution in the unit.

This is why we work so hard to make units deeply engaging, and why we LOVE hearing from our educators.

New unit for middle school! As students design a wearable alert device, they investigate:
โœ” Circuits and switches
โœ” How components work together in a system
โœ” (optional) MATLAB to model timing of alerts and user testing

Free lessons ready to download now. Materials kits and printed teacher guides are available for pre-order, will ship in June.

Engineering isnโ€™t just about building projects. Itโ€™s about building skills that students carry into everyday life. Teachers and parents: here are six life-long skills every child can build through engineering.

Engineering teaches kids that there can be more than one right answer. As they practice going beyond their first idea and revising their thinking, they become more flexible thinkers and problem solvers.

See how it works in real classrooms on our blog.

Weโ€™re excited to join thoughtful conversations about AI and authentic engineering learning for PreK-12 students at this yearโ€™s ASEE conference. YES will be part of the Keynote panel discussion, and we are leading two workshops about AI literacy and durable skills.

If youโ€™re a STEM educator looking for practical ideas, hands-on sessions, and a community of fellow leaders, donโ€™t miss this event.

During a YES unit, youโ€™ll hear students talking about science concepts like they own them. From friction and energy to circuits, to ecosystems and immunology, applying science helps them design better solutions to real problems.

And as NGSS and state standards evolve, we update our curriculum so teachers can use our hands-on resources to solidify studentsโ€™ understanding of those core ideas.

New! Engineering a Toy Rescue, a 20-minute STEM challenge for community events

A toy is stuck in a tree! How can we get it down? In this high-energy, one-session challenge, families or small teams design creative ways to retrieve the toy, and then adapt their ideas as the situation changes.

A quick, flexible activity for STEM nights, libraries, and community events. Difficulty can be adjusted for ages 4 - adult, so families and mixed-age groups can drop in.
