An annual $50,000 prize for a stellar non-fiction book focusing on African American history & culture

The 2026 MAAH Stone Book Award is now open for submissions of non-fiction books focusing on African-American history or culture published between 04/01/25 and 03/31/26. Submissions are accepted from publishers and literary agents ONLY. Authors -- be sure to contact your publishers/agents to urge them to submit your eligible works before April 15th. $50,000 to the winner and $10,000 to two finalists. Short List announced in late July; 3 finalists will be announced in early September. The winner will be announced LIVE at our award event on October 8th. Mark your calendars!

Thanks to our winning authors Michelle Adams, Ben Barson, and Ana Lucia Araujo and our wonderful discussant Callie Crossley for an amazing night last night. Thanks to MAAH and to Stone. Meet our second 2025 Finalist Benjamin Barson! Dr. Barson is a historian, baritone saxophonist, and political activist. He is an assistant professor of music at Bucknell University. His work has been published in 'Black Power Afterlives: The Enduring Significance of the Black Panther Party', 'Routledge Handbook on Jazz and Gender' and 'Routledge Guide to Ecosocialism'. Come to our award event on October 9th to learn even more about Ben and his $10,000 winning book.
