Emily Leonard Trenholm, LANDSCAPE IN THE ROUND 5
2026, oil and watercolor on paper on panel, 22x30”
Trenholm’s LANDSCAPE IN THE ROUND series began as watercolor paintings, in which she recorded the surroundings of her home. When linked, it forms a somewhat continuous visual ring around the home, a border that delineates where grass ends and forest begins. After a sudden loss of a family member, Trenholm revisited her watercolor sketches. The artist sealed the paper with clear gesso and reworked the surface using the oil sticks and a brush, responding to the existing imagery and the memory of creating the work. The result was images imbued with energy that had transformed, in Trenholm’s words, “the weight of loss into colorful expressions of light.”
