Maryland Opera Studio is proud to present the world premiere of Harkusha, Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko's first attempt at opera. A composer, pianist, and musicologist, Lysenko was a foundational figure in Ukrainian music, with works for solo piano, chamber music, art song, choral music, and opera.

In an evening led by Dr. Roman Koropeckyj (UCLA) and Dr. Michael Lavery (UMD) and featuring members of the Maryland Opera Studio, this program explores Harkusha and the evolution of Lysenko’s vocal music in conversation with influential works of Verdi, Weber and others.

Experience this historic performance while supporting Ukraine!
