TOMORROW | Join artist Matt Rich in artist walk through of exhibition “GRIDS” Saturday, May 2nd, 2 - 3pm

“For his second solo exhibition at the gallery, Matt Rich has created a series of painted collages that take as their starting place the rectangle and the grid.

Featuring the same energetic and varied juxtapositions of materials, texture, and colors as his ongoing shaped canvas works, these pieces pit linear, perspectival space against organic, process-driven marks, together rendering a layered illusionistic space.”

CLOSING THIS WEEK | Steve Locke’s waiting for my man at LaMontagne Gallery, Boston, on view through Saturday, April 25, 2026

“There is no magic. There is only justice.”

Across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, Locke interrogates the uneasy relationship between beauty and violence in American visual culture. The exhibition invokes states of longing, anticipation, and encounter; positioning viewers not simply to look, but to consider what seeing reveals about themselves.

Saturday March 21st | 6 - 8pm | opening reception with artist Steve Locke | waiting for my man

LaMontagne Gallery is pleased to present “waiting for my man” a solo exhibition of works by Steve Locke. Please join us Saturday March 21st for the opening reception with artist

“Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, Locke uses figuration as a site where histories of spectacle, justice, and representation converge. Guided by his assertion that “There is no magic. There is only justice,” his work challenges viewers to confront what is at stake in looking - at images, at bodies, and at ourselves.

Across recurring motifs such as suspended portraits, expressive “tongue paintings,” and charged encounters between figures, Locke constructs scenes that hold tension between intimacy and unease. Rather than depicting violence directly, he foregrounds its psychological and historical presence, prompting reflection on complicity, memory, and perception. Spanning decades, his practice reconsiders portraiture as a critical lens through which to engage identity, power, and the unresolved narratives embedded in contemporary life.”

Opening Reception: Saturday, March 21st, 6 - 8 pm

This Friday | 5 - 8pm | opening reception with artist Salvatore Del Deo | Sinners, Saints, and Angels

LaMontagne Gallery is pleased to present “Sinners, Saints, and Angels,” a solo exhibition of works by Salvatore Del Deo. Please join us this Friday for opening reception with artist

“An exhibition centered on The Temptation of St. Anthony of Thebes (After Flaubert) 2023, a monumental mural scale painting that occupied the artist’s studio, and imagination, for nearly four decades. Inspired by Gustave Flaubert’s novel, Del Deo recognized in Saint Anthony’s inner visions a parallel to the artist’s own creative struggle, where doubt, temptation, and endurance arise from within. Begun in the early 1980s and left unfinished for decades, the painting was finally completed in 2023, when, at ninety-five, Del Deo returned to the canvas with renewed clarity and urgency. Shown publicly for the first time in its completed form, the work anchors an exhibition of large-scale allegorical paintings that transform personal memory, collective conflict, and historical witness into charged symbolic tableaux, affirming Del Deo’s singular vision and lifelong engagement with the tension between darkness and revelation.“

Opening Reception: Friday, February 13th 5 - 8pm
