Opening tonight | First Friday | 6 - 8pm

Opening reception with artist Jeff Perrott next Thursday 9/10 6 - 8pm

LaMontagne Gallery is pleased to present Containers, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Jeff Perrott.

“Emerged from an impasse in Perrott’s Construction series, paintings become a container: a bound space in which forms relate to one another, the artist, and the viewer. The idea extends to the containers of the body, mind, and consciousness, as well as the social and technological structures that shape how we understand ourselves and others. While the earlier Construction paintings embrace complexity, uncertainty, and expansion beyond the picture plane, the Containers turn towards something more direct, personal, and intimate.

Containers follow a deliberate set of formal rules, including axonometric geometry, hard edges, opaque color, exposed raw canvas, and figures that remain entirely within the picture plane. Although geometrically precise, each composition develops intuitively. Its forms hunker down, reach, withdraw, or hover suggesting figures negotiating boundaries of their own containment.

Throughout this body of work, containment becomes the condition through which intimacy, love, and connection are made possible.”

LaMontagne Gallery founder and director Russell LaMontagne joins host Gaston Lacombe on the latest episode of The Art Colony podcast.

In this episode, Russell reflects on growing up in Provincetown's West End, artists and places that shaped his early life in the arts, and his journey from co-founding LFL Gallery to opening LaMontagne Gallery in Boston.

This conversation also explores the changing gallery and artist landscape in Provincetown with our recent exhibition with Twenty Summers, his work with the Provincetown Public Art Foundation, and Provincetown's enduring identity as a creative community.

TONIGHT | Join us tonight from 6 - 8pm for the opening reception of FAZE with Bianca Fields Hannah Rust Celeste Diaz Falzone Xyl Lasersohn

“LaMontagne Gallery is pleased to present FAZE, a group exhibition curated by Bianca Fields, featuring work by Celeste Diaz Falzone, Hannah Rust, Xyl Lasersohn, and Bianca Fields. Bringing together four Northeast-based artists, the exhibition considers how “the cute” circulates as an aesthetic category in contemporary art and visual culture. Inspired by literary and feminist scholar Sianne Ngai’s theory of cuteness, FAZE highlights figurative works that evoke “baby-schema” features—large, deep-set eyes, rounded faces, and soft or elastic proportions. These familiar qualities encourage intimacy and affection, shaping how viewers approach, interpret, and emotionally respond to art.

Unlike the sublime, which relies upon distance and awe, the cute invites closeness through an appearance of softness, vulnerability, and innocence. Yet this apparent passivity is not without power. Through varied approaches to contemporary figuration, the artists in FAZE explore cuteness as more than a decorative or sentimental quality, challenging conventional distinctions between softness and strength, vulnerability and authority, and attraction and control. Together, their works reveal cuteness as an unstable and compelling force—one that draws the viewer closer while quietly determining the terms of the encounter.”
