Artist Statement
My art practice begins with close observation of the natural environment. I collect organic materials, including branches, leaves, grasses, and other fragments of the landscape. These materials become both source material and collaborators in the creation of my sculptural wall paintings.
I combine these collected elements with spray foam, epoxy, acrylic, oil-based clay, gesso, and resin to construct layered, tactile surfaces that exist between painting and sculpture. Small clay forms, including birds and ladybugs, are incorporated into the works as recognizable fragments of the natural world. Through accumulation, transformation, and repetition, familiar organic forms are removed from their original context and given new physical and symbolic meaning.
The process is inherently meditative. Walking, collecting, building, and assembling become ways of paying close attention to the environment and to its subtle changes. My work reflects on the interconnectedness of nature, memory, and human experience while considering themes of fragility, transformation, and environmental change. By bringing elements of the landscape into sculptural paintings, I seek to create a physical record of my encounters with the natural world and invite viewers to reconsider their own relationship to the environment.
