The Gibson House Museum

The Gibson House Museum The Gibson House is a historic house museum located in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. Tours are currently offered through advanced tickets only.

Now a National Historic Landmark, the home served as residence to three generations of Gibson family members and their household staff between 1859 and 1954. Visitors experience the house through a guided tour that interprets class and culture through the stories and objects of the people who lived and worked there. We heard you loud and clear, hair jewelry lovers! We were blown away by the amount of support we received for our hair jewelry program with Nora Carleson . It sold out quickly, and we know there are so many of you who are interested! So . . .
. . We’re hosting another one! Join us on Saturday, November 21 from 5-7 PM for a hair jewelry lecture and workshop with Dr. Nora Carleson. After learning about hair jewelry, take some time to make your own based on historical examples. Jewelry supplies and artificial hair will be provided, but feel free to bring your own hair!

Behind the Gibson House Museum’s beautiful interiors are deeply human stories of love, loss, and struggle. Join Curator Hailey Robbins for a lecture on Dr. Freeman Allen, Mary Ethel Gibson’s husband and prominent Boston doctor at the turn of the twentieth century. This lecture goes behind the facade of Freeman’s public persona and into his personal struggles with mental illness and addiction at the end of his life.
