Smash & Release Piñata Workshop

Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art

Join exhibiting artists Sylvia Montero, Tony Ortega, and Cipriano Ortega for a collaborative piñata-making workshop. The three artists will give a short history of the piñata and then participants are invited to create communal piñatas and contribute hopes, desires, and things they wish to release as a shared act of reflection and celebration. This workshop is for adults and families, unfortunately we cannot accommodate children without an adult or parent.

Tickets: $30/$20 members/$10 youth

Join BMoCA and Lighthouse Writers Workshop for an in-gallery poetry workshop inspired by Tres Voces, Un Corazón. Through guided prompts and close looking, participants will explore themes of family, ancestry, and community.

No pressure, no registration, no risk, no kidding! Come and hang out with fellow creatives in Boulder, bring your sketch pads, drawing tools, and whatever. Paints are OK too. Some basic art tools will be supplied. You are welcome to bring art supplies to donate or share. Cool music, light snacks, cash bar and great community.

Cost: Free, donations accepted

For all ages, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Our Museum Shop is featuring some limited edition prints by Tony Ortega during the Summer Exhibition. Check them out soon - the shop is open Tuesdays - Sundays 11am - 5pm, but also 9am on Saturdays, and until 7:30pm on Wednesdays during Boulder County Farmers Markets.

New installation by Lilian Lara: Liminal Courtyard

Installed last week, Liminal Courtyard represents a home or shelter as more than just the physical spaces we inhabit. They mean safety, heritage, and memory. You can physically feel a place but the emotions the space evokes is what makes it feel like home.

BMoCA at Adams County is a collaboration between Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and Adams County. Curated by BMoCA, this exhibition is an extension of the museum’s exhibition programming.

Join a BMoCA Educator for a tour and engaging discussions about the current exhibitions at BMoCA’s flagship facility. An art activity inspired by the artwork will follow. All art materials will be provided. At this SPARK! event, we’ll tour BMoCA’s current exhibition, Tres Voces, Un Corazón.

SPARK! is a series of programs specifically designed to make BMoCA’s art exhibitions accessible for people with early-stage Alzheimer’s or dementia and their caregivers.

Free, registration recommended.

Morning Session, 9am - 12pm
You and your team of talented architects and designers have been tasked with helping to construct Boulder’s first cardboard neighborhood, Box Burrow! Whether it’s your dream house, a zoo of mythical creatures, or a two-story donut shop - Your imagination is the only limit to this paper town!

Mini-Mes
Afternoon Session, 1 - 4pm
What if our freckles could be rhinestones and our hair was made of yarn? Join us for a week-long project of mixed media sculpture as we craft our very own life-size mini-mes.

Cost: Half day session (am or pm) per child, per week: $275/$260 members
Ages: 6-11
Lunchtime supervision (12-1pm) per child, per week: $25
