✨Join Us Tonight✨

Opening Reception
Thursday, June 18 | 5–8 PM

Claire McConaughy
Other Worlds: Trees, Flowers and Birds

Ky Anderson & Alex Skorija
Left to Steep

All artists will be in attendance.

Join us at Nick Ryan Gallery to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions. On the main floor, Claire McConaughy presents a new body of oil paintings in “Other Worlds: Trees, Flowers and Birds”. Her paintings offer heightened, dreamlike images of nature that are rooted in reality yet transformed through perception, memory, and the act of painting itself.

In the downstairs gallery, “Left to Steep” brings together new work by Kansas City–based artists Ky Anderson and Alex Skorija. Working in painting, clay sculpture, and works on paper, each artist has developed a distinct visual vocabulary within abstraction, exploring materiality, process, and the construction of abstract space.

We hope you’ll join us in welcoming these exceptional artists.

Claire McConaughy
Other Worlds: Trees, Flowers and Birds

Opening Reception
Thursday, June 18 | 5–8 PM

Exhibiting Concurrently Downstairs:
Ky Anderson & Alex Skorija
Left to Steep

“Other Worlds: Trees, Flowers and Birds” relates Claire McConaughy’s unique painting style to the natural world. McConaughy’s paintings present heightened, dreamlike images of nature that are rooted in reality yet transformed through subconscious perception and the act of painting itself. Drawing from direct encounters with forests, woods, rural landscapes, and the overlooked flora of New York City, she reimagines the natural world through exaggerated color and expressive mark-making. Combining close observation with experiences from her own life—regeneration, chance, death, humor, and vulnerability—McConaughy creates vibrant paintings that explore the relationship between inner experience and outward creation.

Claire McConaughy lives and works in Brooklyn and upstate New York. She earned an MFA in Painting from Columbia University and a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and is a full professor at Bergen Community College. She is the recipient of fellowships and residencies from MacDowell, Millay Arts, Ucross Foundation, and the Santa Fe Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited nationally at The Painting, 490 Atlantic, Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art, Zürcher Gallery, Red Fox Contemporary Art and Garvey-Simon West.

Nick Ryan Gallery is excited to introduce artist Alex Skorija.

In his paintings, Skorija constructs abstract spaces that retain the memory of familiar forms. Working across oil, gouache, ink, and distemper, he explores the tactile qualities of his surfaces through layering and varied application. His compositions are structured yet ambiguous, balancing suggested windows, silhouettes, and stacked landscapes that hover on the edge of recognition without ever fully settling into a single identity.

Skorija (b. 1988, Kansas City) lives and works in Kansas City, MO. He received his BFA from Washburn University in Topeka, KS. Recent solo exhibitions include Side by Side (2026), 3West; Slow Train (2025), Plug Projects; Study Group(2023), Kansas City Public Library; and Leadlight (2023), Kiosk Gallery. Recent group exhibitions include Pungent Pollen (2025), Utopia (Kingston, NY); Shelf Show (2025), MONUMENT (Kingston, NY); and Vessels (2024), United Colors (Kansas City).

We welcome Alex to our roster of artists. Look for Skorija’s work in an upcoming exhibition at Nick Ryan Gallery.
