We invite you to join us this week for opportunities to learn about and engage with the Mohican language, both online and in person.

Wednesday May 27, 2026 – Online Presentation (6:00 PM CT)
Join linguist Chris Harvey for a presentation on the Mohican language and its connection to the Algonquian language family.
If you don’t have access to a computer or reliable internet, we will also be streaming the session at the library, feel free to stop by and watch with us.

Chris Harvey works with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community on the teaching and reawakening of the Mohican language. He will share how language families help us understand the deep history of Mohican and how reconstruction supports revitalization today.

Thursday May 28, 2026– In-Person Community Language Class (5:00–6:00 PM)
Join us at the library for an in-person community class led by Jeremy and Nikole. Come learn together, practice, and connect with others in a supportive, community-centered setting.

These events are open to all, whether you’re just curious or already learning. We hope to see you there!

Help us choose our first Library & Museum Book Club read!

We’re thinking of starting a community book club at the Arvid E. Miller Library & Museum, part reading circle, part conversation, part community gathering (we can include a virtual option).

Which sounds most exciting?

Mohican Seminar / Mohican history readings
(history, stories, maps, discussion)

A contemporary Native novel
(something current and more broadly known, like 'Braiding Sweetgrass', 'There There' or similar)

Something else entirely?
(drop your ideas below)

**COMPLETED - thank you to everyone that submitted. I forwarded your names and contact details!

We have an opportunity for a Stockbridge-Munsee voice actor to be featured in an upcoming project with a partner museum!

The Museum looking for someone to voice Jehoiakim Mtohksin as part of a digital interactive sharing the stories of Native and Black soldiers from the Revolutionary War.

It is a paid opportunity with the script about ~1,000 words and will serve as part of an educational resource.

No formal acting experience needed, just someone who can bring the story to life with clarity and feeling.

If you’re interested (or know someone who would be amazing), reach out to Robin at [email protected] or stop in the museum if you are in the area. Deadline to express interest is April 24, 2026.

Let’s make sure our stories are told in our own voices. 🖤

As we come together to celebrate Stockbridge Day, we want to take a moment to reflect on both the rich history of our community and the incredible ways we continue to thrive today. Throughout the years, Stockbridge Day has served as a powerful reminder of our roots, honoring traditions that have been cherished and carried forward by generations. From the stories shared around the fire to the laughter echoing through our gatherings, these celebrations have always brought us closer, strengthening the bonds that unite us.

What makes Stockbridge Day truly special is not just the commemoration of our past, but also the way we embrace the present. Our community has shown remarkable resilience, adapting to changes while preserving the values and spirit that define us. Each year, as we come together—whether in person or in new, creative ways—we reaffirm our commitment to one another and to the future we are building.

Beneath our different traditions, the varied ways we live, and the many faiths we practice, there beats the same human heart—longing for the same simple things: peace and happiness.

We are all brothers and sisters in this shared humanity, walking the same earth and breathing the same air. May we walk together on the path of peace, not as strangers divided by our views, but as a family united by our deepest, most universal wishes. Now more than ever may you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. Let’s continue to celebrate the strength, unity, and enduring spirit of our people. Happy Stockbridge Day to all!
