𝗛𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿.

When David Berry returned to the Pacific in 1945, his wife, Jacqueline, was expecting their first child.

He went back to war.

She waited at home.

On July 28, Jacqueline gave birth to a little girl. They named her Linda Jo.

Thousands of miles away, David Berry never knew.

Just days later, he climbed into a Navy Helldiver and left on another combat mission. His aircraft disappeared over the Pacific.

He never came home.

He never held his daughter. Never heard her laugh. Never watched her take a first step. Linda Jo would grow up knowing her father through photographs, letters, medals and the stories of the people who remembered him.

In Part Two of 𝗛𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲, we follow LCDR David R. Berry back to the Pacific for his final missions and tell the story of the wife who waited, the daughter he never met, and a family that has kept his memory alive for more than 80 years.

We thoroughly enjoyed spending our Saturday with the Sumner County Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. While our exhibits inspired them, they inspired us right back with how patriotic, respectful, and focused they were on their futures. We can't wait to see how far their hard work and dedication will take them.

He earned the Navy Cross three times before he was 26 years old.

David Render Berry flew into some of the fiercest fighting of the early Pacific war, survived Coral Sea and Midway, and came home to marry the woman he loved.

But his war wasn't over.

Cub Scout Pack 705 came ready to explore, ask questions and inspect the aircraft. We can’t confirm that anyone is headed to Mars just yet, but we wouldn’t bet against them.
