Sunday March 13th 3pm at the BHS
Unwritten in Stone: New England's Enigmatic Stone Sites Remain so Enigmatic

Scattered throughout New England's wood, waters and backyards are hundreds of stone features left behind by earlier generations of New Englanders. Besides the familiar abandoned farmsteads and field walls, there are more enigmatic features: stone chambers, cairns, rows, U-shapes, rocking stones, petroglyphs and perched boulders . At times ascribed to farmers, Indians, Irish monks, Vikings, Phonecians, Templars, and natural forces , perhaps the only thing they all have in common is that few can agree on who made them, when, and for what purpose . In this presentation, we will visit a number of such lithic sites in Massachusetts and neighboring states, present theories of their origin, and explore why they remain so controversial. Peter Anick is the state coordinator for NEARA , the New England Antiquities Research Association , a group dedicated to the documentation and study of regional lithic site.. A professional computer scientist and volunteer archaeologist, Peter strives to balance keeping an open mind with the need for scientific objectivity. Tuesday April 12th, 7pm at Cyprian Keyes Golf Course
A History of Cyprian Keyes: The old farm and the Keyes Family. Please join us in teh Music room at Cyprian Keyes for a fascinating presentation on the history of this site. Desert will be served afterwards.
