James Weikert Original Art

James Weikert Original Art Original oil paintings focused on western landscapes and the connections we make with wild places.

My connection with the natural world began in the rural environment of my youth in northern New Hampshire. Now living in the mountains of Montana, my work continues to be inspired by experiencing the natural world in which I interact with and exploring the concept of place and its relation to my work. During my creative process I transform memories of my explorations from snapshots of static lands

capes into living, moving compositions. My background in architecture helps give me a unique perspective of the forms, colors, and patterns present within the places I visit. I incorporate these elements into my paintings to create bold interpretations of familiar landscapes.

"Pine Creek Lake" 36x36, with Jewel Lake and Black Mountain, somewhere in SW Montana. This was a recently finished commission for a wonderful couple! The blues on this one were really fun to figure out.
At 3 feet x 3 feet, this is the largest painting I've done in... well, ever I think, which was pretty challenging just to figure out how to physically move around my easel to paint it.
