My friend of 25 years Michael Hill passed away last night. He was far more than the man who taught me ceramics, he taught me how to be an artists and how to make living at it.
He saw me through some hard times in my younger years with wisdom and patience.
Mike showed me how to build the life I have and I am for ever grateful for it.

It was an honor to sit with him and see him through to the other side last night. Surrounded by his friends and wife in his home, going out on his own terms, the way he wanted. Showing us the way even at the end.

I took this picture with Mike just a month ago when I took over teaching ceramics for him down at USD when his health began to slip. I could never give back to him what he gave to me, but I offered what help I could to the man that gave me so much.

To any other former students of Mike, with Amy's oversight we will be firing Mike's wood kiln this summer, fire off the last of his pots and pay tribute to the man who taught so many. So make some pots and get a hold of my self or Anthony Millette so we can put that together.

Thank you Mike, it's been an honor to be your friend. See ya on the other side buddy.
