SHU's Discovery Science Center and Planetarium is a nonprofit (501(c)3) organization and Fairfield County's only science center. Our hands-on STEM programs provide unique experiences and a chance for students to learn by doing, making, and problem solving. We encourage young learners to ask questions, solve problems, and engineer solutions today so they are better prepared to embrace the challenge

s of tomorrow. Beyond unique STEM learning experiences and hands-on learning programs, the science center is also a unique venue for special events with special themed birthday party, wedding and corporate event packages available. SHU's Discovery Science Center and Planetarium is supported in part by funding from The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and a host of members, individual donors and corporate partners. Today we celebrate Juneteenth, the anniversary of the day in 1865 when the news reached Galveston, Texas that slavery had ended, that freedom was theirs.
Juneteenth is a celebration of the unyielding spirit of a people. Today we reflect, learn, and commit to the ongoing journey of equality and justice.

Do you want a boarding pass to jump on board with the Roman space telescope? This mission is blasting off at the end of August! Click on the link below and you can join the virtual crew!
The Nancy Grace Roman Telescope was named to honor Dr Nancy Grace Roman, who was NASA's first chief astronomer. Dr. Roman paved the way for space based studies of the broader universe. She is widely considered the "mother" of the Hubble Telescope. Her namesake telescope will deliver panoramic images 100 times larger than the Hubble Telescope!

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is currently underway, and we are already exhausted just thinking about it - 39 days of non-stop soccer is a whole lotta kickin'!
With 48 teams battling it out in 104 matches, it is sure to be filled with amazing saves, great kicks and a lot of "bending" the ball.
Soccer is a mesmerizing display of physics, biomechanics, and human physiology in action! The sport revolves around the laws of motion, energy transfer, and fluid dynamics, determining how a player controls their body, interacts with the ground, and shapes the ball's trajectory in the air.
Check out this video to learn how players can bend the ball!

Ever seen a ball curve or bend in the air during a soccer game and wondered what exactly makes it curve?Find Kyle at: http://twitter.com/kylekitzmillerInstag...

Have you come by to see our Frogs & Friends exhibit on the top floor?
This exhibit allows you to learn all about these amazing amphibians and it even includes some of frogs natural predators!
While caring for the Dart Frogs, one of our animal care team noticed that they all tapped one of their toes while they were eating. So with a little research we learned why they do that (check out the video for the answer)
Just shows that a lot of learning comes from simply asking questions!

Never stop being curious.
