A Local Baseball Legend Gets the Spotlight!

Today, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum shared a fascinating article about someone from our own backyard — Port Norris native and All Sports Museum of Southern New Jersey Hall of Fame inductee Larry Milbourne!
Larry went on to enjoy an 11-year Major League career with the Astros, Mariners, Yankees, Twins, Indians and Phillies, but what makes this article especially interesting to us is just how much of Larry’s story comes from right here in South Jersey. The article draws heavily from interviews and stories that appeared in the Bridgeton Evening News and other local newspapers.
For those of us who know Larry and his place in our local sports history, it’s a great reminder that one of baseball’s most interesting stories came from right here in our own community.
Larry Milbourne is truly a local legend, and we’re proud to have him as an inductee of the All Sports Museum of Southern New Jersey.

We were honored to welcome our most recent inductee, Mim Chappell-Eber, to the All Sports Museum of Southern New Jersey on Sunday afternoon. Accompanied by committee member Debbie Mahaffey, Mim toured the museum and generously donated several items from her coaching career, including USA team apparel, medals, and lanyards. She also made a monetary contribution in support of the museum. We sincerely thank Mim for her generosity and for helping preserve the rich history of sports in Southern New Jersey.

As we celebrate today's MLB All-Star Game, we're highlighting a special display from All Sports Museum of Southern New Jersey inductee Brad Lidge.

On display is Brad's 2008 All-Star Game jersey, generously donated to the museum, along with a glove that just might be one of the most historic in Phillies history.

As Brad tells the story, he used multiple gloves throughout the season. After recording the final out of the 2008 World Series, he came home, tossed the glove into a bucket with the rest, and never kept track of which one it was. So while no one can say for certain, the glove on display has a very reasonable chance of being the one that secured the Phillies' World Series championship.

As we get ready to celebrate this year's MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia, we're taking a moment to recognize two of our Hall of Fame inductees who proudly represented our region on baseball's biggest stage in previous Philadelphia All-Star Games.

Don Money was selected to the 1976 MLB All-Star Game, and Ricky Bottalico earned his All-Star selection in 1996.

On this date, we remember and celebrate the achievements of Bernice Gera, the first female professional umpire and one of our inductees. Bernice frequently officiated games right here in South Jersey, helping pave the way for future generations of women in officiating, including Jen Pawol, MLB’s first female umpire.
