Exciting news to share!
I have recently accepted an incredible offer to take over the Studio Arts Program as Full Time Visual and Fine Arts Instructor at the prestigious Fryeburg Academy, in Fryeburg Maine, about 15 minutes from Factor Fine Art in Bridgton.
The Academy is one of the top ten oldest and most respected private boarding high schools in the country, with a special and unique focus on the arts.
Many of you may be surprised by this, after my 20+ year teaching career in higher ed, but my evolving interests in working with a younger, more open-minded, enthusiastic and energetic student demographic, coupled with the Academy's immense support for the arts and arts programs, unmatched sense of community, interdisciplinary collaborative approach and the support, encouragement and opportunity to re-shape and build the studio arts program into a more internationally known and recognized force, as well as an opportunity to work with the PACE Galleries at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center on campus to design and curate exhibitions of visiting artists from around the world, not to mention the timely and total renovations of all of the studio arts spaces, including the sculpture and ceramics studios at this very moment, the offer was one I couldn't refuse.
You may also be wondering what does this mean for Factor Fine Art here in Bridgton. I plan to continue to run the non-profit and gallery, with some limited hours into the fall and winter, and by appointment only for showings in the gallery, and will be scheduling 3 to 4 large annual events utilizing the space.
I'll be offering small, two-day workshops into next spring as well as re-starting the Drop-in figure drawing sessions.
I am also working on plans to offer Fryeburg Academy students, most specifically the special Arts Certificate Students, opportunities at Factor Fine Art for exhibitions, music performances, internships, etc. So still lots to work out.
I'll be starting full time tomorrow, Monday August 21st, so don't be surprised if I drop off the radar for a while as we finalize the studio renovations and I get into the swing of the new schedule.
More news to come regarding this thrilling and unexpected next step in my career as an artist and educator.
