I have exciting news! For the past several weeks, I have been working on finally accomplishing something I've wanted to do since high school and I couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you all.

GriestProjects.com is finally live and full of content that I've created over the years! Here you'll find my art, thoughts, and eventually some code as well.

I've added a way to reach out for anyone wanting to talk comment or commission, as well as a fully functioning store for purchasing my work online.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE

In addition to releasing the site, I am ecstatic to announce THREE albums worth of music that I've created over the past several years, all available to stream completely free on GriestProjects.com/music, and up for free download on SoundCloud.

Thank you so much for reading this lengthy post. I hope you all enjoy the site and I can't wait to continue sharing my work with you!

PS - Starting today, you can use the code "grand-opening" for $100 off any painting at checkout. Hooray!!!

Here are some screenshots of the output from the pixel sorting algorithm I have been working on. I posted a video of the algorithm working over the course of a minute here as well. Be sure to check it out!

I have been playing with a custom pixel sorting algorithm for creating glitch art this week and have had a lot of fun with it! This screen recording shows the algorithm "rebuilding" most of its source image over the course of a minute.

For those of you curious how it works: My program scans through the pixels that make up the original image, checking one by one if each pixel is considered "light enough." If so, a copy of the previous pixel replaces the pixel that passed the test, only with it's alpha channel (which controls transparency/opacity) reduced by about 3%. The reason the image changes over the course of a minute, is that the algorithm shifts what it means to be "light enough" based on the current time. That is, at second 0, the majority of the pixels in the image are considered to be light enough for replacement because the rule is not yet very strict, but by second 59, the majority of the image fails the test and is left in its original state.

I created this video using the P5.js library and would be happy to share my code with anyone interested!

Screenshots of some other output from the program will be posted here momentarily as well.

Have a great evening!

This week I revisited an idea from my senior design group project and built a new app from scratch. It's called "Out of What?" and is meant to serve as a quick and visually simply record of what you have around the house. The idea is that you enter a quick, rough estimate of what you have for things that you buy frequently, and there is no need to write a list when you go shopping. The app even hides things that you have a lot of to make it easier to worry about only what you need. It is 100% on Google Play and I have included a link below. Enjoy!
