The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation into the case of the Belgian Malinois found in a box nearly starved to death Saturday morning in Bulls Gap, TN.

Here’s the background:

🚨 Rescuers say she was dumped in a box in the tunnel on Cemetery Road in Bulls Gap, TN Saturday morning.

The vet tech pulled off every last maggot (she was COVERED in them). It took nearly 3 hours. The maggots were in her mouth, armpits and every area imaginable. The maggot infestation and level of starvation had to have happened over an extended period of time, according to the vet.

Right now they’re calling her MG (for Malinois Girl).

She was microchipped. Turns out she was adopted out of Morristown/Hamblen County Feb 26th, born on December 22nd, 2024. She is one year, 8 months old (updated from 8 months old as initially thought). The person the chip is registered to said they gave her away.

MG is being kept hydrated with an IV, and she is being fed very small meals throughout the day. Donations are being accepted at Foundations Animal Hospital: 423-853-4424

Adoption inquiries will need to go through the Hawkins County Humane Society.

On October 3rd, we will celebrate 3 years open. Because there’s too many pictures to fit in one montage, this our first year open. We thought we’d be a 3 month pop up, and when we had made it a year - we really didn’t know what to expect going forward. But to all of you that came in that first year - especially at the post office - this is where we say thank you for believing in us from the very start. 💚
