We’re proud to announce the unveiling of a vibrant new mural honoring the life, work, and enduring legacy of Julia De Burgos, the beloved Puerto Rican poet, civil rights activist, and cultural icon of El Barrio.
"𝑮𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑱𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒂" Created by Harlem native artist Marthalicia Matarrita – this 18 × 14 ft mural celebrates the artistry and spirit of East Harlem, welcoming visitors to the Julia De Burgos Cultural Center. Commissioned by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Council Member Diana Ayala, and project management by 3RD ETHOS, “Glimpse of Julia” stands as a tribute to Julia De Burgos’ lasting influence as an artist, educator, and advocate for community and culture.
Join us for a special celebration — the Julia De Burgos Mural Unveiling & Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony — featuring guest speakers, a ribbon cutting, and a reception celebrating the creativity and community spirit of El Barrio.
