Installation detail of “Body Omens” by .tuca at Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York

“The specimens found in this exhibition date from 2019 to 2026, and some of them are associated with more than one individual. Each reveals a dense stratigraphy of compression and torsion-records of repetitive gestures inscribed in matter. The gum retains intricate dental impressions: occlusal ridges, cusp marks, and fold-lines, forming a negative cast of the masticatory apparatus, then rendered in bronze as a form of preservation.”

Excerpt from wall text at “Body Omens” by Catalina Tuca.

The exhibition is open Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 to 6 pm. Come visit!

As part of his TNT residency, artist Jesus Benavente is presenting 𝙐𝙉 𝘿𝙄𝘼 𝘼 𝙇𝘼 𝙑𝙀𝙕, a series of one day exhibitions inviting other artists to present their work in his studio, located next to and galleries.

Jesus writes:

𝙐𝙉 𝘿𝙄𝘼 𝘼 𝙇𝘼 𝙑𝙀𝙕
This series is a kind of work. It’s not a gallery. It’s not really a curatorial endeavor. It’s more like a conversation between me and friends about what they are doing, except their works are doing all talking and we’re just at my good opportunity and we’re just like sharing it (we should share more). Like I’m introducing you to a friend and maybe you’ll become friends too (because what they are doing is great and you should be their friend). It’s no pressure. It’s just one day. We’re just getting by in this world. You should come.

The gallery will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 6 pm, and on the 19th we will have a closing reception from 3-6 pm. Please join us!

“Body Omens” presents a speculative investigation built from objects shaped by human use. Over the past five years, Tuca has collected, analyzed, and cataloged chewing gum and used soap bars as imprints of bodies. The folds, erasures, and distortions left on their surfaces are classified as oracles, enabling a structured yet fictional divination system that offers insight into the people associated with them.
Borrowing from historical practices of divination, the exhibition stages these domestic remnants within a display that mimics institutional museum conventions, merging conservation lab and ritual space.

This exhibition is curated by and included a prelude performance by
