Heretic Weekend
RJTheatre Co. proudly announces Heretic Weekend, the inaugural event in a
bold new annual series reclaiming and reimagining the stories of misunderstood
women throughout history. This year’s focus is Anne Boleyn—explored through
theater, visual art, and historical scholarship. The event will take place at the
Williamsburg Art & Historical Center (WAH Center) in Brooklyn.
Heretic Weekend will feature:
● Staged Reading of Heretic
A time-jumping historical drama by Emma Tadmor that reframes Anne Boleyn
not as a victim or seductress, but as a radical thinker—silenced by power, yet
refusing to be erased.
● Short Plays Series
Partly staged new works by emerging and established playwrights, each offering
a distinct feminist lens on Anne’s voice, mythology, or historical legacy.
● Featured Artwork & Artist Insight
A contemporary portrait reimagining Anne Boleyn by international artist Alma
Gershuni will be on display. Accompanied by a written reflection on her creative
process, the work offers a visual reclamation of Anne’s image and legacy. The
piece will be available for purchase as part of the weekend’s fundraising efforts.
● Keynote Lecture
Tudor specialist Lynsey Wood will deliver a live lecture unpacking the historical
Anne Boleyn—her education, ambition, and the political threat she posed to
Tudor power structures.
“Heretic Weekend is about giving voice to women whose stories have been
distorted or dismissed,” said Emma Tadmor, Artistic Director of RJTheatre Co.
“It’s also a space for emerging artists and thinkers to intervene in those
narratives and offer something defiantly new.”
Founded in London in 2020 and now based in New York, RJTheatre Co. creates
raw, intimate, and emotionally resonant theater. Heretic Weekend marks the
beginning of an annual series, with each installment spotlighting a different
misunderstood woman from history.“This is just the beginning,” said Julianne
Mason, Co-Producer.
“Every year, we’ll invite new artists to help rewrite the record—and reimagine
legacy.”

Pentiment #7

SET 1: Gían Pérez

Gían Pérez, guitar

Bio:

Gían Pérez is a multi-disciplinary artist, improviser, and composer from Puerto

Rico, based in Brooklyn, NY, whose work focuses on the elucidation,

fermentation, and subversion of form. Pérez has worked with artists like Brandon

Lopez, gabby fluke-mogul, Elliott Sharp, Marc Edwards, among others and

performed at venues like The Stone, Downtown Music Gallery, and Joe’s Pub. By

extending the guitar to its extremes as a physical material, Pérez denatures the

electric guitar beyond its ascribed historical identity, envisioning a language that

was never conquered and had instead been left to govern itself. His debut solo

guitar record, bambú, was released on zOaR Records. Ñ, his most recent solo

record, is available everywhere now.

SET 2: Amor Fati

Nate Wooley, trumpet

Cecilia Lopez, electronics

Drew Wesely, guitar

Eli Wallace, piano

Bio:

Amor Fati is an improvising quartet of musicians featuring Nate Wooley

(trumpet), Cecilia Lopez (electronics), Drew Wesely (guitar), and Eli Wallace

(piano). Born out of an interest in blending, blurring, and re-imagining how

sounds are created and perceived, this electro-acoustic ensemble creates

singular sonic environments. Each contributor utilizes their respective instrumentin inventive ways, obfuscating the instruments' identity, each subsumed in the

overall texture of the group. Using any sound or moment of silence as fodder for

interaction, new transfixing ideas surface, each encapsulating distinctive and

peculiar collective sound worlds.

Standing in doorframes

Dear Friends,
We're very excited to invite you to the presentation of, Standing in doorframes, June
13th, 14th, & 15th at 8:00pm (doors open at 7:00pm). Tickets: $30
Please join us at the beautiful and historic WAH Center to experience genre defying
artists and performers from all corners of the creative world. The WAH's mission is
to foster a contemporary audience for fine art, live dance, music and theater performances
through unique and thoughtful programming.
____________________________________________________
Standing in doorframes is a darkly funny and physically-charged dance theater work that
explores movement across thresholds of place, time, and life. Each potential step forward,
saturated with both hesitation and hope, battles the past behind while confronting the
future ahead.
With concept and choreography by Jonathan Royse Windham, and joined in performance
by Clinton Edward and Griffin Massey, the piece unfolds through sharp shifts in energy,
awkward encounters, and quiet vulnerability. Grief lingers beneath a surface of humor,
curiosity, and dynamic physicality. The dancers draw the audience into a world where
movement and flow are offered and interrupted, where tension builds in what’s expressed
and withheld.
In this new full-length work, originally developed from two shorter pieces commissioned
by TanzOrtNord in Lübeck, Germany, the artists invite audiences to lean in, feel the
friction and recognize themselves and each other in this intimate and abstract narrative.

WAH Theater Program Presents: A Bath of Approbation – A Haunting New Play by Roman D’Ambrosio and music by Peter Dizozza
We invite you to a remarkable new theatrical production at the Williamsburg Art & HistoricalCenter this April. A Bath of Approbation is the latest collaboration between Roman D’Ambrosio and Peter Dizozza, co-directors of the WAH Theater Program. The play explores the legacy of a renowned writer who once lived—and mysteriously died—in the cottage. More than a century later, four new visitors arrive, unknowingly stepping into parallel roles across time. As their stories intertwine, they must confront the unsettling power of being written into history and the lasting consequences of the past.
This intimate production, written and directed by Roman D’Ambrosio, features original live music composed and performed by Peter Dizozza, seamlessly weaving together language and melody to transport the audience through time. The cast of four actors—Anna Medley, Charlotte Horan, Stella Westlake, and Tay Rosen—brings the story to life in a minimalist, actor-driven production that highlights the emotional depth and thematic resonance of the piece. Pentiment Series #5 - Rose Thorne

Dear Friends,

We're excited to invite you to join us for a the presentation, The Pentiment Series #5 -
Rose Thorne, on Friday, April 18th at 8:00pm (doors open at 7:00pm).

Join us at the beautiful and historic WAH Center for this very special performance!

About This Performance:

Prairie songstress Rose Thorne was born in South Dakota in 1896 and died in Oregon
in 1950.

A searcher & a dreamer, Rose Thorne wrote dozens of songs of prairie life, hope,
loneliness & love in the 1920’s, 30’s & 40’s.

Towards the end of her life all of her handwritten music, along with all her paintings and
poetry were believed to be forever lost in a fire — a fire intentionally set!

After her son Charlie Wollesen died in 2014, a stack of her handwritten music charts
were found among letters she had sent to him in 1944. The surviving charts eventually
made their way to a grandson she never knew - Kenny Wollesen - by way of the man
who lit the match!

Kenny Wollesen arranged her music and assembled a band of his dear friends for a
very special night of Rose Thorne’s music!

Please come hear Rose Thorne’s songs come alive again after 100 years at the WAH
Center!

Don't you dare miss this show!

Featuring:

April 18 – May 17, 2025

Williamsburg Art & Historical Center (WAH Center), Brooklyn, NY
Gallery Hours: Sat. & Sun. 1-5pm

Dear Friends,
The Williamsburg Art & Historical Center (WAH Center) is proud to present Beyond
Interface and Prompt, a multimedia group exhibition that brings together innovative
works by emerging and established artists exploring the evolving relationship between
art and technology.

As technology continues to advance, its integration into contemporary art becomes
not only inevitable but push innovation. Beyond Interface and Prompt marks the
WAH Center’s inaugural exhibition dedicated to exploring the intersection of art and
technology. Traditionally celebrated for showcasing artists excelling in conventional
media, the WAH Center now extends an invitation to both its esteemed Salon
members and a new generation of artists to experiment with emerging technological
tools.

This initiative embodies founder Yuko Nii’s “Bridge Concept,” which envisions the
WAH Center as a multifaceted, multicultural art hub that unites diverse artistic
communities and fosters connections between local, national, and international artists
across all disciplines.

Set in a 19th-century landmark, the exhibition serves as both a literal and symbolic
bridge: connecting historical legacy with future innovation, and expanding the
language and form of contemporary art in bold new directions.

Featuring installations, digital art, animation, sculpture, and interactive media, Beyond
Interface and Prompt reflects on how technological tools—once merely
instruments—are now integral to the way we conceive, produce, and experience art.
Please join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, April 18, from 6-8PM in the 2nd
Floor Fine Art Gallery. We also present a music performance, “Rose Thorne”,
directed by Steve Long, 8-10PM in the 3rd Floor Theater.
