🔎 What’s that Artifact? - Answer! 🔎

Last week we asked you what this mystery item was, and you gave some great answers! This is WWII trench art, depicting a German V-1 Cruise Missile and a leaf-shaped ashtray.

Although the term “trench art” primarily comes from WWI, this folk art tradition has a much longer history. It is created by soldiers, prisoners of war, and civilians who transformed the remains of destruction into a creative outlet. Trench art uses discarded war materials such as shrapnel, shells, cans, personal items, and whatever else was available around them. This particular trench art is courtesy of George and Karen Enterline.
