Thomas Massey House

Thomas Massey House The 1696 Thomas Massey House is a 300-year-old living history museum operated by the Marple Historical Society in Broomall, Pennsylvania.

The Thomas Massey House is a superb example of an early Pennsylvania farm house and a monument to the American dream - the home of an indentured servant who became a landowner, and like the American dream it has endured over 300 years. The brick end of the house was built in 1696 as an addition to an earlier log or frame house, and was enlarged in the 18th and 19th centuries. It remained in the po

ssession of his descendants until 1925. In 1963 the house and one acre of Massey's 300 acre farm was purchased by a Massey descendant, Lawrence M.C. Smith of Germantown, and given to Marple Township for restoration. Restoration of the house began in 1964 and continued until it's completion in 1974 when it was opened to the public as a museum.
