In 2001, Broomfield became a combined city and county. Did you know that Broomfield is one of the most recently redesigned counties in the United States? The effort to create a new government structure involved many people and a herculean effort. Hear directly from people who were involved in the process at this special talk.

Don’t miss the Broomfield Historic Sites Tour

Start the tour at the Broomfield Depot Museum
2201 10th Ave., Broomfield

Purchase tickets (a small donation of $5 per adult) on our website before the event or at the Broomfield Depot Museum on the day of the tour.

Begin the tour at the museum. While you’re there, pick up the list of historic sites and map, as well as your “passport,” and drive to the various locations on your own schedule during the event hours.

Volunteer docents will be available at tour locations to share historical information and stamp your passport between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on October 3, 2026.

Additional activities at several locations:
• Depot Museum: Shep Storytelling by the Broomfield Spellbinders at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. with a visit from a Shep look-a-like dog!
• Veterans Museum: Mamie Doud Eisenhower re-enactor
• Pearson House: Lego structure building
• Anne Crouse Park: Ambient ancient music
• Brunner House and Broomfield Grange: Garden tours
• Metzger Open Space: Farmstead open and overlook view of possible Native American campsite

The Broomfield Depot Museum will be closed the entire month of September due to building construction. Thank you for your patience as this work is completed. The projected first reopening day for the Depot will be for the Broomfield Historic Site Tour on October 3.

This weekend we learned a bit about Mary Meikle Wright at the Broomfield Depot Museum. We heard the story directly from Mary as performed by local historian and enactor Colleen Sawyer.

Colorado’s first female Dairy Commissioner, Mary Meikle Wright, ran a successful cheese factory in Broomfield in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Her story is one of perseverance, overcoming obstacles and dedication that reveals a woman ahead of her time. Thank you to all who attended!

The ticket is a map allowing you to visit the sites in whatever order you wish.
Learn about Broomfield’s history from prehistoric peoples to Native Americans, homesteaders,ranchers and farmers, entrepreneurs, railroads, bank robbers(!) and post WWII community builders.
Adults: $5 donation • Children: free
