Celebrate Preservation Month with us and the
National Trust for Historic Preservation this May!
As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we’re looking to the places that bring its most powerful promise to life, that “all people are created equal,” and to the people making sure those places endure. We want to hear about historic sites that tell Americans who we are, places that continue to shape our 250-year journey to becoming a more perfect union.
Preservation Month is your moment. Share how the historic places you love spark joy, inspire wonder, and connect members of your community to our shared history.
The places that make us who we are deserve to be celebrated — and protected!

Don't forget that in honor of preservation month the BHA is featuring an exclusive architectural walking tour with Brownsville’s Historic Preservation Officer, Juan Velez. Nailed it! A Journey through Preservation

Happy Preservation Month!

In honor of preservation week, here is a look back at the BHA's participation in the Relic Wranglers Program as part of the Texas Association of Museums 2026 Annual Conference!
The Relic Wranglers program is designed to provide hands-on collections support to a selected museum in the host city of the TAM Annual Conference. This year the Weslaco Museum was chosen with the task of helping process part of the museum's military collection. Weslaco museum staff along with a group of volunteer museum professionals from throughout the state aided in this task. This included BHA's Marissa Casas, Grant Writer and Education Coordinator, and Aubrey Nielsen, Collections Manager.
Together, the team cataloged nearly 100 objects and digitized 50 items from the museum’s military collection, including photographs, uniforms, printed materials, and more.
