We’re honored to introduce our community to one of Bryan’s own: George “Conscious” Lee Jr.

Born and raised right here in Bryan, George’s journey has taken him from the West Side of our city to a global platform reaching more than five million people. He is a nationally recognized educator, thought leader, author, and digital influencer whose work sits at the intersection of history, justice, education, and culture.

George earned multiple degrees from the University of Oklahoma while becoming one of the top college debaters in the country. He later served as a professor, high school English teacher, and Director of Debate at the University of Oklahoma, leading his team to a national championship in 2019. Today, his voice is featured in major national publications and trusted by audiences seeking thoughtful, honest perspectives on the world around them.

Through it all, George has remained grounded in his roots. His message is simple and powerful: education is elevation, and purpose matters.

On Friday, February 6, 2026, the Brazos Valley African American Museum will host a special Fireside Chat with Conscious George Lee as part of our First Friday programming. This intimate conversation will explore his life, his work, and what it means to use your voice with intention in today’s world.

Brazos Valley African American Museum

The African American National Heritage Society (dba) Brazos Valley African American Museum was built on the site of one of the original black schools in the Brazos Valley. It was the brain child of retired educator, Mrs. Mell Pruitt and became officially recognized and functioning in 1999. The museum is the first establishment of its kind to promote the history of African American citizens in the Brazos Valley. The museum opened its doors to the public on July 22, 2006. The mission of the African American National Heritage Society is to explore, develop, preserve and present the cultural history and heritage of African Americans.
