May Update

We had planned to host our Downtown Historic Walking Tour again this year in conjunction with Heritage Preservation Month in May. However, as many of you have noticed, the downtown streets are undergoing a major makeover. As a result, we won’t be holding the walk this year. We look forward to bringing it back next May in a sparkling new downtown.

We’re also planning a clean-up at the Buffalo Lake Scenic Overlook later this month and will share details as soon as the date is set.

There will be no regular meeting at the “old” Community Center this May as they transition to the new Community Center, located at 114 Commerce Circle.

Plan ahead and get your free Community Center pass by visiting the city website and scanning the QR code to register. Or, join the Grand Opening celebration on Tuesday, June 9, from 5–8 p.m., and someone there can help you register. Please note: registration will be completed using your cellphone.

We’ll have a table set up at the Grand Opening—please stop by and say hi!

You’ll need to check in with your free pass card each time you visit the new center.

We hope you’ll take time this Heritage Preservation Month to celebrate and promote the heritage of our city—and your family’s heritage—in your own way.

Spotlight on Local Historian: Fred Kelm Shares Buffalo’s Theater Legacy
The Buffalo Historical Society is excited to announce that at our upcoming meeting on Tuesday, February 17th, at 6:30 at the Buffalo Community Center , 206 Central Ave, we will welcome local historian Fred Kelm as our featured guest.
Fred Kelm, a Buffalo resident since 1978, has been a dedicated member of the theater community since 1982. In 2016, Fred began a unique project at the Buffalo Library, using their microfiche archives of the Wright County Journal Press to create a scrapbook of vintage movie theater advertisements from the area. This passion for preserving local history soon expanded to sharing old photos and articles on the “Wide Street Buffalo” page, where his posts have gained a loyal following.
Driven by a lifelong interest in the history of Buffalo and Wright County, Fred continues to share fascinating glimpses into our community’s past. At the February meeting, he will discuss the rich history of local theaters and highlight some of the stories and images he regularly posts online.
All are welcome. Bring a friend!

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the cold this past Sunday to join us at our Hotdish fundraiser! Your support means so much as we raise funds for our upcoming website. I truly believe we had the best selection of hotdishes ever assembled and don't forget the bars and coffee —what a delicious way to celebrate a Minnesota tradition! Special thanks to all who cooked, volunteered, and made this event such a success. We couldn’t have done it without you! We were all so busy having fun that we didn’t get to take many pictures, but the memories are priceless.
