What a night—celebrating SUPERPOWERS OF JOY with everyone!

With 70 artworks on view and 100+ people showing up strong—turns out joy really does have superpowers.

We invited young artists to participate in My Superpowers of Joy, a youth art exhibition that encourages children and teens to reflect on what joy means to them and how it can be expressed visually. Together, these young artists created a beautiful, welcoming space through work that connects and celebrates creativity, optimism, and the importance of making.

The gallery was packed with imagination, color, and new community connections! This event used creativity to include others and actively challenged hate!

Huge thankyous to all the families that participated and came out to our party!
We couldn’t of done it without support from our local partners , , and plus our all-star volunteers from the Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo and Temple Beth Zion .buffalo You all made this night shine.

Making art for joy—and then throwing a party for it?
Yeah… that’s a superpower we’re keeping.

My superpowers of joy is officially an annual exhibition and happening!

We spent the afternoon at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library for the Family History Conference—tabling for our soon-to-launch Stuart and Caren Shapiro Jewish Genealogy Center of Buffalo, a new branch in the “family tree” of the Jewish Museum of Buffalo.

It was a pleasure connecting with community members interested in our upcoming Jewish genealogy training program and meeting fellow history enthusiasts from across Western New York. society

We also invited visitors to weigh in on one of our most exciting decisions—helping us shape the look of our future logo for the SCS Jewish Genealogy Center.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared their stories, and helped us build this next chapter—together.

Open to all—everyone is welcome.

Groups, educators, and community members—we’re opening this up to you.

The Jewish Museum of Buffalo is hosting a free performance of The Seed, an original student-created play developed through the Buffalo State Anne Frank Project.

The Seed follows a young seed pushed out of its comfort zone, navigating change, challenge, and growth. Through this journey, the play explores themes of resilience, identity, and transformation, encouraging reflection on how struggle shapes who we become.

Wednesday, the 29th
9:30–10:30 AM

Free and open to any groups, must register attendance.

Poster designed by a Buffalo State student involved in the production.

If you are an educator, community group, or organization looking for a meaningful and engaging experience, we would love to have you join us.

Share this with someone who might be interested—help us fill the room. .youth

Today is Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, which commemorates fallen soldiers and all civilian lives lost to terror.

Throughout history, Jewish people have fought for the right to their own state, to practice their religion and live freely. When the Roman Empire sought to rebuild Jerusalem as a pagan city around 130 CE, restricting the religious freedom of many Jews, a group of Jewish rebels formed an alliance. Simon bar Kochba was the leader of this group. He and others fought to form a Jewish state independent from the Roman Empire, even issuing their own coinage.

This independent state lasted for approximately three years before Emperor Hadrian’s army was able to overcome them. This led to a mass expulsion of the Jewish people, mass killings, and enslavement of the population.

Although the formation of this state did not last long, the Bar Kochba Revolt, as it is known today, serves as a lasting reminder of the strength and resilience of the Jewish people. Coinage from that time serves as a reminder of this Jewish state, and the continued fight against anti-semitism.

The images above show a coin used in the state established during the Bar Kochba Revolt.
