Rooted in the belief that science creates opportunities and shapes our world, the Buffalo Museum of Science is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to providing relevant science programming to learners of all ages in the Buffalo Niagara region. Through interactive science studios and exhibits designed for multi-generational learning, the Museum showcases its extensive collection of more

than 700,000 specimens and artifacts representing all facets of the natural world with an emphasis on Western New York. With a focus on raising the science literacy in the Buffalo Niagara area and beyond, the Museum offers hands-on workshops, camps, panel discussions, guided tours and enhance learning opportunities for its guests and community. The programs of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences are supported in part by public funds from the County of Erie; City of Buffalo; New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; and our members and friends.

It's a big day for WNY with the new Highmark Stadium cutting the ribbon on the $2.2B facility! But did you know we're opening a stadium of our own at the Museum in partnership with the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits?

ICMYI: 15 seniors at South Park and Riverside high schools got a unique look at the upcoming Science Stadium exhibit space earlier this month, and we're inching towards completing it! Check out this lovely historic photo of a tiger swallowtail that our collections team just processed! 😍Tiger swallowtails are in the middle of their first flights of the season around Western New York during June because they love early -summer blooms like milkweed, lilac and coneflowers. You can learn about their place in our local ecosystem in our Bug Works exhibit and spot them out in the wild around Tifft Nature Preserve!

Our collection has over 1,200 photos like this one that the team is processing thanks to funding through an Access and Innovation Grant awarded by the Western New York Library Resources Council - WNYLRC. We'll continue to post them throughout the year as more photos are processed!

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but no words can describe how cool this picture of all the artwork in Hamlin Hall leading up to National Art Week in 1940 is! 🎨 Our collections team has been taking a deep dive through the museum's historical negative collection and found this one in time for the Allentown Arts Festival!

This photo was digitized as part of a project that was funded under an Access and Innovation Grant—a member grant awarded by Western New York Library Resources Council - WNYLRC . The cosmic treats continue tonight! 🪐

👀If you look in almost the exact direction where the sun sets once it goes down, you'll be able to see 3 planets in the sky at once. Venus and Jupiter will appear to be nearly on top of each other, while just a little to the north and near the horizon, you'll be able to see Mercury, no telescope needed!

Happy World Environment Day! 🌳🌎 It's a great day to explore the world around you today... but did you ever wonder what the world was like 250 years ago?

On Wednesday, June 17, we're taking you on a trip through history to explore the world of naturalism through the lens of one of the most incredible minds you may not have heard of! George Forster's ideas on freedom, equality and how humans interact with nature inspired some of the most important thinkers and revolutionaries of his generation, and his ideas still ring true today.

New York Times Best-Selling author Andrea Wulf will give a special talk at the Museum on her book about his life and achievements, and you can be a part of the discussion!
