Casa de Arte

Casa de Arte Casa de Arte, an art gallery and cultural exchange program located at 141 Elmwood Ave. between Allen and North Streets, had its grand opening in August 2011.

The gallery, one of the largest in Western New York, had five exhibitions in its first year and received an incredible amount of media attention, to include Channel 2 News, Buffalo Rising Magazine, Buffalo Spree Magazine, Artvoice, Panorama Hispano, the Buffalo News, the Allentown Newsletter, Buffalo.com and multiple blogs.

WE ARE CLOSING! A reception for the opening of the art exhibit, El Dia de los Mu***os at Casa de Arte will be on Friday, November 3, 2017, from 6 to 10 pm. The Day of the Dead will feature installations, mixed media, film, music, paintings, and sculptures from various Mexican artists, including the co-owners of the gallery, Mara Odette and Rick Williams. The exhibit runs through Tuesday, November 14th.

During our annual Day of the Dead celebration, we always honor ancestors and highlight an artist that is no longer with us. This year, sadly, it will be Casa De Arte itself, as we will be closing our doors for good after this, our final exhibit.

Mexican Movements: Carlos Mérida and his Compeñeros

The exhibit includes works from Carlos Merida, Jesus Escobedo and Raul Anguiano, members of some of the same1930s-40s socialist, anti-fascist political groups and indigenous-inspired art movements as the great Mexican muralists Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Siqueiros. That they are internationally known is no exaggeration; their work can be found in the Modern Museums of Art in New York and Mexico City, among many other prestigious modern museums worldwide.

(The attached images are "Untitled", a print from Jesus Escobedo and "Tres Mujeres", a watercolor by Carlos Merida.)

Case de Arte presents: "Mexican Movements: “Carlos Mérida and his Compañeros."

Opening reception: Saturday, September 10, from 6 to 10 pm.

The exhibit runs through September 30. We are open Mon and Fri, from 10 to 3 pm and by appointment by calling 716-227-0271.
