Stepping Back in Time in Mooers! 🧵✨

What a wonderful Saturday! Today, one of our amazing volunteers, Robin, represented the Almanzo Wilder Farm at Living History Day in Mooers.

Robin stepped back into 1865, demonstrating the traditional art of wool spinning just as Mrs. Wilder would have done right here on the farm over 150 years ago. Visitors got a firsthand look at the patience, skill, and heritage craft that went into making clothing for a 19th-century homestead.

🍎 Storytime Sunday: Preparing for Winter at the Wilder Farm 🍎
"The apples are ripe and Almanzo, Royal, and Father will set the ladders by the trees and climb to pick every ripe apple. They would then put them in the cellar and carefully place them in the apple bins. A bruised apple will rot and a rotten apple will spoil a whole bin. All the dropped or bruised apples would be gathered and used later for apple cider."

Late summer on an 1860s farm meant race-against-the-clock harvest days! Almanzo’s family relied on careful preservation to ensure they had fresh fruit, cider, and stores to last through the bitter North Country winters.
