Honored to say that this exhibition marks the first time that Christina Watka has publicly shared works on paper! Drawing has always been an intimate part of her private art practice and became an especially meaningful part of this collection, most of which was created while she attended an artist residency on a small island off the coast of Maine.

While walking back and forth between the beach and her studio each day, she began collecting wildflowers and weeds along the path - overlooked everyday flora sprouting up between sidewalk cracks and along the trail edges - and made a point to identify each while sketching it. As she learned about these unexpectedly beautiful plant species, she discovered that each had long, surprising histories of traditional uses and homeopathic medicinal properties. She began to imagine that they were all intertwined beneath the ground’s surface, growing stronger together from interconnected subterranean root systems, a shared life source. What started as highly accurate botanical illustrations morphed into newly imagined ‘hybrid’ species as she reimagined the disparate plants growing together into one new plant.

I couldn’t think of a more appropriate day than the Autumnal Equinox to announce our next show!

Soapbox Arts is thrilled to present our final gallery exhibition of the 2026 season, (𝙐𝙉)𝘽𝙀𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙄𝙉𝙂, featuring original works in a variety of mediums by two Vermont-based emerging artists. This dual-artist exhibition brings Ana Koehler’s mixed media paintings and collages into conversation with Hannah Cieri’s sculptural ceramics in an exploration of transition and transformation. In the practices of these two artists, becoming and unbecoming are not opposites, but simultaneous forces shaping and reshaping our lived experiences.

Join us on Friday, October 16th for a celebratory opening reception from 5:30 - 8pm!

Koehler and Cieri’s work blossoms at the ever-evolving threshold of what is forming and what is falling away. In their first collaborative exhibition, these two artists delve into the contradictions and connections existing within nature’s cyclical transitions, from emergence to decay, renewal to decline. (𝙐𝙉)𝘽𝙀𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙄𝙉𝙂 invites us to join in their journey through these liminal spaces, suggesting along the way that “finished” is and always was a conceptual myth - a misleading and unattainable endpoint. Rather, entropy and change are woven into our inner and outer worlds. Creation is built in the crumbling. Nothing stays intact, but nothing disappears without participating in what comes next.

After over seven years of cycling shows on a six week schedule throughout most of the year, we’re doing things a little differently this summer! Until our solo show with opens August 22nd, you’ll find a rotating presentation of works by Soapbox artists on the walls!

Honestly y’all, it’s been SO much fun to take a little curatorial space to be playful and to have an opportunity to share new original works that aren’t specifically part of an exhibition (hint hint like these new works on paper by that pair more exquisitely than I could’ve ever imagined with ’s pieces from her last solo show). Here’s your reminder that you don’t have to wait for someone else’s permission to switch things up… especially when you happen to be your own boss 😂
