Check out this first installment of “Fleming Wants to Know” with Seth and Sam, two of our content and communications assistants! They wanted to hear from guests at our Spring 2026 Kickoff Party, “What is the first word you think of when you think of the Fleming Museum of Art?”

Not sure about tonight’s Blood Moon, but we do have a “Blue Moon.”

Did you know that our Belonging gallery celebrates Toshiko Takaezu by displaying a group of her closed vessels in the middle of the gallery. As a Hawai’ian-born Japanese American, and a woman artist who challenged traditional distinctions between craft and art, Takaezu occupied a marginal position in the male-dominated art world. Today she is widely recognized for her innovations in art and teaching. In fact, Takaezu gave these works to the Fleming through her former apprentice Hoyt Barringer, a UVM alum, who now teaches ceramics at the University.

With the upcoming weather ❄️❄️❄️ please note that the museum will close at 2pm today and will remain closed on Saturday, 2/21.

In the meantime, take a closer, awe-inspiring look at what is coming for us: nothing short of mesmerizing art to be found in the nature that surrounds us. These glass lantern slides from the famous “Snowflake Bentley” are currently on view in our “Rooted in Nature” exhibition through May 16, 2026.

Wanna join the best crew on campus? 🫶

A lot of people may not realize that all our gallery attendants here at the Fleming are UVM students! The absolutely lovely humans shown above do it all—from welcoming visitors in to ensuring the safety of everyone and our collections. We simply could not do what we do without them and now’s your chance to join the team.

We are currently hiring for Spring 2026, so if you’ve ever strolled through the galleries and thought “Wow, what would it be like to work at a museum????” head on over to JobX posting #9280 or visit our profile link for more (JobX login required).
