Our recent volunteer appreciation luncheon brought the classic game of Clue to life with evidence bags, crime-scene clues, themed refreshments, and plenty of mystery-solving fun. Even our beloved late founder, Mary Hulton Phillips, joined in the spirit of the day.

And the case is closed: it was Carole, in the Meissen Gallery, with the Knife!

We are incredibly grateful for the volunteers who generously share their time, talents, and enthusiasm with the museum. Thank you for being such an important part of The Maridon family!

Some masterpieces are painted. These were layered, dipped, and carved.

This weekโ€™s featured artwork is a striking pair of Peking Glass Vases dating to the late 18th century. Each vase began with an opaque white base, then was dipped in layers of cobalt blue glass. Artists then carefully carved through the blue to reveal the contrasting white designs beneath.

Discovered by Maridon Museum founder Mary Hulton Phillips at a Sewickley antique show in 1976, the pair now resides in the museumโ€™s Side Gallery.

See these remarkable works in person Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Some love stories are simply meant to be told in porcelain.

Meet Zephyr and Flora, captured traveling together in an elaborate chariot with Cupid by their side. In Roman mythology, Zephyr, god of the West Wind, fell in love with Flora, goddess of flowers and springtime.

: Bringing History Back to Life at The Maridon Museum

This week, weโ€™re looking back to 2005, when Maridon Museum founder Mary Hulton Phillips worked with Pittsburgh objects conservator Rhonda Wozniak to restore a remarkable collection of antique Japanese dolls.

Over several months, the dolls were carefully restored and preserved. By 2008, they were ready to take center stage once again as part of the museumโ€™s annual Childrenโ€™s Day, or Tango-No-Sekku, Festival.

Although Mrs. Phillips passed away in 2009, her dedication to preserving art, culture, and history continues at The Maridon Museum, including through the annual March of the Samurai each May.

A wonderful look back at the care and commitment that went into the collection we preserve today.
