The Cabot Historical Society is excited to announce that structural repairs are being implemented and we will have the Main St building open for the 4th of July! For the time being the building will also be open by appointment or by chance (if the flag is out please stop in!). We hope to have more regular hours with volunteer staffing in the future.

We are also seeking dehumidifiers to use in the building. We have volunteers to monitor and dump them but before buying new we wanted to see if anyone in the community had any left over from the flooding that they would be willing to loan us for the summer. Thanks!

Sunday, March 30 at 2 pm Howard Coffin will be speaking at the Willey Building about “Vermont Women and the Civil War.”

Howard is a seventh-generation Vermonter, an author and historian, whose area of expertise is the Civil War. With nearly 35,000 of the state’s able-bodied men at war, Howard speaks about how women took on farming, worked in factories, served as nurses in the state's military hospitals, and more. At least one Vermont woman appears to have secretly enlisted and fought in a Vermont regiment.

Admission is free and the talk is sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council and the Cabot Historical Society.

This is the Stone family at their place on Cabot Plains, owned by Richard Spaulding since the 1980s and in the Vermont Land Trust since 2006. It now belongs to Lillian Alexander and Michael Baskin.
