Photograph of Perry F. Powers (third from the left) and his unknown colleagues.

Powers wrote "A History of Northern Michigan" and was the editor and publisher of The Cadillac New and Express (later renamed Cadillac Evening News) for 30 years. He was a member of Michigan State Board of Education from 1899-1900; Michigan state auditor general from 1901-04; mayor of Cadillac from 1920-21; postmaster; and vice-president of the Peoples Savings Bank.

Our records state she was the daughter of Eldon L. Metheany, who was elected mayor of Cadillac for one term in 1883 to 1884 and another from 1890 to 1892. He also served on several other community boards. However, after a secondary look for her life dates, I cannot claim she is E. L. M.'s daughter

The Cobbs & Mitchell Electric Flooring Plant was located on the N.W. corner of South and S. Mitchell (formerly Wood) streets at the confluence of the Grand Rapids & Indiana and the Ann Arbor railway lines.

At one time, it was claimed to be the largest flooring plant in the world.
