Holiday Pie Social during Light Up Caledonia!
The historic Caledonia Gallery will be beautifully decorated for Christmas and hosting a selection of delicious pies made by your Caledonia Bakery.
Cost: $7 includes Slice of Pie & hot beverage. No reservations necessary.
Pie selection includes apple, blueberry,cherry, pecan, pumpkin, sour cream raisin, French silk and Key lime pies.

Watercolors available for viewing by Mary Amundson

Mary Amundson lives just outside of Spring Grove. She was born and raised just outside of Eitzen but has lived near Spring Grove since 1970. She has enjoyed art her entire life.

In March of 2021, Mary was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Since her diagnosis, Mary has experienced a loss of the use of her hands and arms and has limited use of her legs and feet.

Mary has always been very creative and was encouraged by her children to try painting again. Her first attempt was a watercolor painting done by holding the brush between her teeth. That painting turned out beautifully, but she started having severe headaches due to the pressure she had to use to hold the brush steady. Mary’s youngest son suggested that she try using her feet and he attempted to paint a picture that way and it turned out fairly well. This inspired Mary to attempt it herself. Her first attempt was using watercolor paint and applying it with her toe. This is a smaller picture of a valley with a barn at the far end. After that she tried using a brush held between her toes. She has experimented with Tempera paint and finger paint but has decided that her favorite is watercolor paint.

Mary’s creative quest began in February of this year and she has created several beautiful paintings since then. She has decided she is going to do everything she can to help inspire others to reach for their dreams and use all of their creativity to the best of their abilities. Mary has also decided to participate in the Walk To Defeat ALS being held in La Crosse, Wisconsin in October of this year.
