Yes!
If there was one thing George Carlin despised more than anything else, it was the human urge to belong to a group.
“I don’t like ass kissers, flag wavers or team players. I like people who buck the system. Individualists.” When Carlin warned people to “avoid teams at all cost” and “never join a group that has a name,” he was diagnosing the root cause of almost every human disaster. He believed that the moment you surrender your individual identity to a collective—whether it’s a political party, a religion, or even a corporation—you surrender your morality.
He famously pointed out that while there might not be an “I” in team, there is an “I” in independence, individuality, and integrity. Carlin saw groupthink as a disease that stripped people of their critical faculties. He spent his life as a lone wolf, standing outside the circle, pointing out how ridiculous everyone inside looked. He knew that the only way to maintain your sanity and your soul in a completely insane world was to stand entirely on your own two feet, even if it meant standing alone.
