Did you hear the news? Our new online donation processor is now live! 🛠

"HHTC has been a stepping stone for me. I’m now in the second year of my apprenticeship with Piledrivers and Divers Local 474 in Philadelphia! Someday I hope to build an entire house from the ground up."

WE NEED A VAN! 🚐

Our program has been getting amazing opportunities to work on larger on-site construction projects, but we need transportation.

The Henson Center is in the market for a 12-passenger van to transport our students, preferrably at a discounted rate. This is an urgent request, please contact [email protected] if you have a lead. Thank you!

What happens when you realize you have sheds to sell, but no way to deliver them? This was a problem we were faced with… and our students fixed it! 🛠️

(By the way, we sell custom sheds! DM us for more information!)

Last week, the Vice President and Director of Corporate Giving and Financial Education for WSFS Bank, Bob Juliano, stopped by to present to students in Cohort 13. Bob has been committed to providing financial literacy seminars to our carpentry students for the past three years, and his kindness and generosity shine alongside his very real, very valuable lessons.

HHTC’s workforce development program is more than just working with tools. We are equipping our students with the skills they need to actually succeed in life, outside of just their occupation. We are so thankful to Bob for providing this resource to our program!

A huge THANK YOU to the Subaru of America, Inc. Foundation for awarding HHTC a generous grant of $10,000! Partnerships like this make it possible for us to expand our program to equip more individuals with the skills they need in the workplace.

We are deeply grateful for the Subaru of America Foundation’s commitment to investing in organizations that strengthen our community. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us build Camden, together!

We're extremely proud to share this custom project! The idea came from a junior at UrbanPromise Academy, who wanted to support inclusive outdoor learning for all ages at UrbanPromise, right where the action was. HHTC was the perfect fit for the job!

Our latest cohort put their new carpentry skills to work by building custom quarter-round tables for UrbanPromise’s outdoor classroom. Designed for durability, the tables are made with treated lumber and smooth cement-board tops, making them perfect for outdoor use. Stay tuned to see the final result as students personalize our work!

We’re always ready to take any idea and make it happen, continuing the circle of community in Camden! 🛠️

Hammer Away, But First Make Sure You're On Time. 🛠️ Thank you to TAPinto Camden for this article highlighting our program, staff, and volunteers!

“Instructor Cornelius “Con” Duffy doesn’t miss a beat when asked how many of his carpentry students have never touched a power tool before showing up to his class.

‘Mostly all of them.’”

Thanks to the Glen Foerd Foundation for allowing us to be part of their mission of providing inclusive experiences in the Philly community by commissioning HHTC to adapt one of our traditional program projects to accommodate more users!

Students in our current cohort worked together to build these incredible accessible garden boxes. These will be used at Glen Foerd for a gardening program. From the custom design to lining the boxes with landscaping fabric, take a look at our students Lavar and Janaisha showing off their amazing work!

This week in 1909, , a craftsman, set foot on the North Pole! After years of failed attempts, Henson reached 90° North, marking himself as the first person of the Robert Peary expedition to reach the geographic North Pole. His perseverance and determination to complete his journey inspire all of our staff, volunteers, and students at Henson Heritage & Training Center!

While Peary initially received most of the credit and glory, Henson's role as a vital co-discoverer has been recognized in later years. 117 years later, HHTC was named to continue honoring Henson’s legacy and extraordinary efforts.
