I was truly honored to be featured in Alabama Magazine in their recent article on Cornwallis 1828. At this stage in my life, it means a lot to be part of something that’s making a difference and helping keep our history alive.

Volunteering at Cornwallis has been a blessing to me. I’ve always believed it’s important for our children—and grown folks too—to spend time outdoors, to learn where we come from, and to understand the stories that shaped this place we call home. Down here in the Alabama Black Belt, we’ve got a rich history, and it deserves to be shared and remembered.

I’m so thankful to Alabama Magazine for shining a light on the work being done and the people who care deeply about it.

A little to 2013!

This photo was taken during the Leadership Wilcox VI class tour of the Camden Shoe Shop & Quilt Museum, back when the museum had just newly opened its doors.

We were so proud to showcase this special piece of Wilcox County history to a group of community leaders committed to making a difference right here at home.

Camden Shoe Shop & Quilt Museum owner and class member of the 2013 Leadership class, Betty Anderson, along with classmates Debra Turk, Lindsey Hollinger, Betty Morgan, Mary Perryman, Donna McGraw, Joyce Wall, John Creswell, Shelia Roe, Crystal Singley, Mecheel Bridges, Edwina Twilley, and Frankie Gaddy participated in several programs and learned how to better our communities.

The class was funded with a grant from the Ala-Tom RC & D Council and sponsored by the Alabama Extension.

It’s always fun to look back and see how far we’ve come and the many leaders who continue to invest in Wilcox County’s future. 💙
