Sabine Pass Lighthouse - Cameron Preservation Alliance The Cameron Preservation Alliance is trying to repair and preserve the Sabine Pass Lighthouse which has been abandoned since 1952.

The Sabine Pass Lighthouse was lit in 1856 and has endured many hurricanes and a Civil War Battle. The structure was abandoned in 1952 and has since fallen in disrepair. Ownership was transferred to the The Cameron Preservation Alliance in 2001 and the alliance is seeking to repair the structure. 3 more pallets of late 1800s New Orleans Hard Tan Bricks were delivered today and around 3 dozen trees were planted to expand the woods. The last 10 old step ends are expected to be removed over the next few days.

Old step removal continues to progress and the last ones are expected to be removed this coming week.

Lighthouse keepers conducted various maintenance on the tower when it was operational. Inside this set of photos you can see modern portland cement was used to replace a few steps at some point in the past. Workers are also removing the patches of modern concrete where possible since it is destructive to historic masonry from a difference in expanding and contracting qualities.

Another 7 step ends were removed from the masonry walls today. Only 45-50 are left. Spalling and rust jacking is very obvious around some and will require more than just a few surrounding bricks to be replaced.
