She will be discussing Rice Wood, her newly released children’s book 📚. This beautifully illustrated book tells the forgotten tale of the friendly relationships that existed between Africans and Native Americans. Register through the link 🔗 in our bio.

All registrants will receive a free e-copy of the book. The Author Hour is free, open to the public, and will be held via Zoom. The program is supported by our SUCCESS Scholars.

We’re excited to include Kenard Smith Jr.’s, “Significant Woman” 2020 in our current exhibition “Joy at the Root” guest curated by Elizabeth TiBlanc
View it online anytime (link in bio) or in the gallery starting Wednesday 2/9

Kenard had this to say about his submission- “The make-up often in the form of face paint, is used in many different things such as meetings, religions, and traditional reasons. There were many different tribes and groups in Africa, and the face painting was one way to identify them apart. It also represented the women getting prepared for life. Which was a joy for most women to take leadership and being faithful to their culture.

My name is Kenard Smith Jr., a 22 year old artist out of Boston/Cape Cod. I’ve been painting for 8 years. Most of my paintings either tell a story or it challenges the viewer to think deeper of what the colors and image may mean. This is a way for me to express thoughts out loud.”
